GENESEE COUNTY — The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Genesee, Lapeer, Sanilac and Shiawassee counties until 3 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18.
Flash or near-flash freeze conditions may occur this morning, with snow expected this evening. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected.
A cold front will cross the area this morning drawing significantly colder air south. Temperatures will fall into the upper 20s by 10 a.m. Rain that fell overnight will not have time to dry before it begins freezing on area roadways this morning leading to very slick conditions. Snow still expected to develop early this evening and will continue into early tonight. Some blowing and drifting of snow will occur tonight with northerly winds gusting up around 20 mph.
As a result of worsening weather and road conditions today, many Genesee County schools have cancelled classes for the day.
