After some unexpected scheduling changes, the locally produced film “Monsters on Main Street” will shoot scenes downtown the night of Dec. 1. Diane Millington, special events coordinator for the Davison Downtown Development Authority, said Flushing filmmaker Brad Leo Lyon will have his actors and production crew set up on the south end of Main Street to shoot between 4-5 scenes for his comedy/horror movie. Originally, Lyon was supposed to shoot the week Nov. 18-25, during the late night and early morning hours from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. Lyon assured the city council earlier in November he will try to make the filming as non-disruptive as possible by reducing the size of the crew to a minimum.

Head coach Richard MacLachlan has been doing all he can to get the Davison varsity girls’ basketball team ready for the race to the top of the Saginaw Valley League-South standings. It’s going to take more than the Lady Cardinals’ scrimmage at Clio last Friday to put all the pieces in place, though. First on the list for the Lady Cards was their season-opening conference crossover home game against Midland Dow on Tuesday. While these two teams came into this contest knowing they were rather evenly matched, it took an overtime session to figure out exactly how this one was going to go, turning a game that was tied at 46-46 at the end of regulation into a 54-53 loss for Davison.

Patience may be a virtue, but not to some members of the Davison City Council, who are frustrated with an apparent lack of progress on the part of the Davison Area Economic Development Authority (EDA). But there will be more opportunity for discussion about the future of the business-government agency. A Monday, Nov. 24 memo from City Manager Jack Abernathy, who represents the city on the EDA, announced a restructuring of operations, but did little to answer questions about the long-term future of the agency.

Just as a loss may not tell the whole story, so it may be with a victory. The Cardinal hockey team earned a 10-1 victory over Clio on Saturday, Nov. 29, but coach Doug Towler is concerned that it may not have been the best learning experience. A total of six Davison skaters did get their names in the stat book for goals, with a highlight being a hat trick by Troy Salsgiver. Several others were credited with assists, and goaltender Kyle Moffat earned six saves in goal.

Community night, a custom long observed in Davison schools, is no more. The old policy of banning school activities on Wednesday nights to permit an encourage students to participate in church and family activities, was discarded Monday night on recommendation of a citizen committee named a month ago by board President James Dowsett. Speaking for the citizens committee was David H. Fulcher, who declared the group of 18 had held two meetings in which all opinions were thoroughly aired in a unanimous decision reached. Fulcher was asked by one of the audience whether in case a band or play cast member chose to go to church instead of a required rehearsal, what would be the consequence. He replied that up until now the band, as well as other activities, has been able to go out along without Wednesday sessions.

The Davison basketball season got underway in fine style last Tuesday night by turning back a tough Carman team 73-60 behind the hot shooting of Joel Dean. Dean, a 6-4 Junior, picked up where he left off last year and gunned in 34 points for the Cards on 16-24 shooting from the floor and two to three from the charity stripe. Dean came through with scoring space evenly through every quarter with scoring of 8-7-11-8.
