DAVISON TWP. — Natalie Miller, who has served as the Principal at Thomson Elementary for the last 10 years, has been selected to replace Theresa Wendt as Principal of Gates Elementary. Theresa is retiring at the end of June after a 37-year career in education as a teacher and administrator.

“Mrs. Miller is an accomplished administrator,” said Superintendent Kevin Brown. “She has proven herself to be an exceptional leader as the Principal of Thomson Elementary for the past 10 years. I am excited that she is willing to move to Gates and take over one of the District’s largest elementary buildings.”

“Principal Miller has truly been an impactful leader at Thomson Elementary,” said Matt Lobban, Assistant Superintendent. “Her knowledge and experience with literacy and best instructional practices, coupled with her many years of administrative experience, will continue to support and expand the great things happening at Gates Elementary.”

Miller has been with Davison Community Schools for 23 years, starting out as a split Reading Recovery and first grade teacher. She then taught first grade at Siple Elementary before taking a job as a Literacy Specialist at Hill Elementary and Central Elementary and, later, solely for Central. She became Principal at Thomson in January 2012.

“It will be very difficult to leave Thomson because I absolutely love the staff and this age group, however; I am very excited about working with the Gates staff, students and families,” she said. “I look forward to the opportunity of having more than one or two years with students and their families to develop deeper and more lasting relationships.”

Natalie earned her bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. She also has a master’s degree in literacy and reading and an education specialist degree in school leadership and administration from Oakland University.

Miller and her husband, Matthew, have a daughter, Elena. She enjoys spending time with her family up north, attending Elena’s swim meets, gardening, shopping at antique stores and estate sales and being outside.
