Mueller reacts to win in the 51st House District

GENESEE COUNTY — In last Tuesday’s general election, Republican Mike Mueller defeated Democrat David Lossing to become the 51st State House District’s next representative. He will succeed term-limited Rep. Joseph Graves (R-Argentine Township).

“I would like to thank the people of the 51st District for taking the time to vote and having the confidence in me to be their representative,” Mueller said on his campaign Facebook page. “This would not be possible without all the support from my family, friends and supporters.”

Lossing, who is the former mayor of Linden, thanked his campaign team for their efforts.

“Running to represent the 51st District has been a humbling experience, and it was a pleasure to talk with thousands of voters about the issues impacting them and their families every day,” Lossing said. “I look forward to continuing to serve our neighbors and making the 51st House District a better place for all our families.”

In turn, Mueller thanked Lossing for giving him a congratulatory gesture after the race results came in.

“Although we differ in political views, you are a man of knowledge, character and class,” Mueller said of Lossing. “This showed when you came to my party to personally congratulate me. I thank you.”

Mueller, 43, has served as a sheriff’s deputy in the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department for 18 years and is a United States Navy veteran. He and his family own an apple orchard and cider mill, as well as the Birchview Outdoor Wedding Event Center in Linden.

As the next 51st District House representative, Mueller said he will improve the local economy by limiting government regulations, supporting small businesses and improving community infrastructure. He also plans to focus on providing more benefits for returning veterans and combating opioid abuse in the district.

The 51st House District includes Linden, Fenton, Fenton Township, Argentine Township, Gaines Township, Clayton Township and Flushing Township in Genesee County; Holly Village, Holly Township, Groveland Township and Rose Township in Oakland County.
