Kearsley staff member tests positive for COVID-19

The district learned earlier today that a staff member has tested positive for COVID-19. The staff member is currently hospitalized. Due to federal health privacy laws, information regarding the staff member’s identity cannot be released.

Please respect the staff member’s privacy during this difficult time. We have communicated directly with those individuals who came in contact with this person in the last two weeks. This individual was not in contact at all with any of the food being distributed. We have also been in contact with the Genesee County Health Department and have been working with them on next steps. Health officials are interviewing/reaching out/providing assistance directly to individuals with an elevated risk of exposure who may have been in recent close contact with the staff member. All staff directly impacted by this news will be contacted. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends contacting your doctor if you believe you have been exposed to COVID-19 and develop a fever and other symptoms, such as coughing or difficulty breathing.

More information can be found at Genesee County Health Department. In addition, please take social distancing seriously: stay at home, maintain at least a six-foot distance from other people and wear a mask when out in public.

As a precautionary measure, we will be shutting down our food distribution for this Thursday, April 9. We plan to resume this service as scheduled on Monday, April 13 with some modifications. We will transition to one site only for distribution moving forward. Kearsley High School will be the only food pickup location and will operate with expanded hours from llam-l :30pm. Additionally, we will only be serving food to the trunks of vehicles. Please be prepared to unlock your trunk or have meals placed in the bed of your pickup truck in order to ensure everyone’s safety.

Additional food pick-up sites are located throughout Genesee County. Please refer to the meal distribution map available on the Genesee Intermediate School District website at www.qeneseeisd.orq/resources/community/ to identify other local distribution sites in our area.

Thank you for your continued support. By working together, we will get through these challenging times. As you know, the well-being of our students, staff and families is our number one priority. Please join me in sending healing thoughts to our staff member. — Superintendent Kevin Walworth, Kearsley Community Schools
