The Grand Blanc Community Schools celebrated the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the Perry Center with a grand Centennial Celebration on Saturday, May 7. The event, complete with lawn games and food trucks, drew a large crowd. (Top right) Ainsley Skiera, 1 ½, with help from mom Mackenzie Skiera, enjoyed spinning the wheel at the Faith Lutheran Church booth to see what prize she would win. (Top left) Tobias Lee, 6, sat patiently while Kristen Roberts of Modern Ink Body Art painted a ninja turtle mask on him. (Below left) Mary Evatt Gainor, pictured here with her son, Carl, was a special guest. At 103 years old, Gainor is Grand Blanc’s oldest living graduate. She finished high school early, receiving her diploma in 1935. (Below right) Chloe Haggerty, 19, promoted Duck Race tickets. The celebration also included a ribbon cutting for the new Perry Centennial Pavilion and Gardens built by local high school students, music, balloons and student-led building tours. “This past weekend, our district was thrilled to welcome nearly 500 community members, alumni and former staff back to our historic Perry Center building to celebrate its 100th anniversary,” said district Superintendent Dr. Trevor Alward. “Throughout the evolutions of the Perry Center building, it has always served as a hub of learning for the Grand Blanc community. We look forward to continuing that ‘Tradition of Excellence’ for the next 100 years and beyond. Thanks to Grand Blanc for turning out, rain or shine, in support of the school. Saturday was definitely a great day in Grand Blanc.”
