BURTON — Hurley Medical Center continues its mission of providing clinical excellence and essential service to people by making healthcare more convenient for people in and around Burton. Michigan Health Specialists (MHS) and Hurley Urgent Care of Burton, a primary care practice that cares for patients from newborns to seniors, hosted a grand opening celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony last week, welcoming scores of visitors on Friday, April 12 at their 2065 Center Rd. location.

Guests at the well-attended event included team members, friends, families, doctors, colleagues, business owners, local officials and many more. During the event, the sizeable team of board-certified doctors, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and support staff underlined their commitment to providing the people of the community with an excellent experience.

The substantial crowd gathered to hear introductions and speeches from MHS Director of Operations Josh Lord; Burton Mayor Paula Zelenko; Co-founder of Michigan Health Specialists Dr. Seif Saeed; CEO Hurley Medical Center Melany Gavulic and CEO Regional Medical Imaging Dr. Randy Hicks.

“It’s comforting to know that such critical healthcare specialists will be located right here in Burton, and all under one roof,” said Mayor Zelenko. “It’s kind of one-stop shopping right in the heart of Burton, and that’s how we like to think of Burton – as the heart of Genesee County.”

“We are very honored to be asked to be tenants in such an important resource for education, support, healthcare, counseling and more…,” said Gavulic. “Our mission is to be able to provide access to care, and we’re beyond happy to extend help to the community and the surrounding areas.”

Following speeches made by aforementioned representatives and officials, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held, courtesy of Burton Chamber of Commerce President Peter Clinton and Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce Director of Member Services Steven Elkins to commemorate the momentous occasion.

A tour of the facility was held directly following introductions to allow visitors to explore all of the services available at the sizeable facility. Information sessions were also held regarding: diabetes self-management; diabetes prevention; medical nutrition therapy and a food FARMacy located at the building. Lunch was also provided.

MHS treats individuals after hospital discharges and admission to the emergency room. The practice sees patients of all ages with routine and complex needs, along with elderly patients with a range of medical conditions. MHS providers also study, diagnose, and treat illnesses and health conditions ranging from minor aches and pains to complex diseases. MHS provides patients with access to comprehensive medical services including laboratory testing, X-Rays, EKG, pulmonary function testing, ultrasound and bone density testing.

Operating four clinics throughout Genesee County, the founding partners of MHS oversee the residency program at Hurley Health Center and hospitalist programs at McLaren Flint and Hurley.

MHS is proud of its affiliations with the Michigan State Medical Society, American Medical Association, American Hospital Association, and American Academy of Family Physicians.

Locally, MHS proudly supports the Flint & Genesee County Chamber of Commerce.
