School Board recognizes spelling bee winners

FLUSHING TWP. — The Flushing Board of Education paid recognition to several Flushing spelling bee winners who attended its April 9 meeting at Elms Elementary School. Students pictured here include (left to right): Lily Zuber (11th grade, Flushing High School), Eli Richey (8th grade, Flushing Middle School) Isaac Tift (10th grade, Flushing High School) and Seth Zubke (4th Grade, Springview Elementary).

The District-Wide Elementary Spelling Bee was held at the William H. Tunnicliff Auditorium on Feb. 21, while Flushing Middle School and Flushing High School held their spelling bees on Feb. 13. The first and second place winners at each grade level (4 – 12) participated in the Genesee County Regional Spelling Bee held on March 4, 6, 7 and 8.

Altogether, the Flushing School District had 10 winners at the county level. Two of those winners, FHS students Lily Zuber and Connor Davenport, reached the Championship Spelling Bee for Grades 5-12, with Zuber placing first in the 11th grade category and Davenport placing second in the 10th grade category.­— B.G.
