Photo provided FLUSHING – The Flushing boys’ tennis team continues to make history, winning the Flint Metro League title outright last Wednesday. Coach Ian Thomas was also named Metro League Coach of the Year.

It’s been a banner year full of highlight reel statistics for Flushing that include breaking Holly’s 107-match unbeaten streak that dates back to 1999 on Sept. 6. Beating the longtime perennial favorites for the Metro League title right before Thursday’s regional begins just sweetens the season.

Flushing will compete in Div. 2 at North Farmington Thursday at 8 a.m. The field includes Auburn Hills- Avondale, Farmington Hills-North Farmington, Fenton, Highland-Milford, Holly, Walled Lake Western and Waterford Kettering. None of the teams are state ranked, but Flushing beat Holly 5-3 and Fenton 6-2 already this season. Teams have to win, place second or earn 18 points to move on to the state meet. The winner and runner up at No. 1 Singles earns automatic berths.

Flushing’s lineup includes No. 1 Singles Andrew Kearney, Scott Branham at No. 2, Chase Ward at No. 3 and Ryan Mignery at No. 4. Doubles tandems are Jake Besko-Matt Birchmeier at No. 1, Jack Killingbeck- Will Wykes at No. 2, Torey Barber- Tate Bowers at No. 3 and Cameron Gray-Reid Plamondon at No. 4.
