Volleyball team sweeps rival Swartz Creek

Photo by Todd Boone SWARTZ CREEK — The Flushing volleyball team defeated league opponent Swartz Creek 25-11, 25-15, 25-10 on the road Tuesday.

Kendyl Andrews finished with 24 assists and 14 digs. Sutton Bate and Maddy House both recorded eight kills and Belle Maynor had 10 digs.

Last Saturday, Flushing hosted multiple schools for the Flushing Invitational. The Lady Raiders finished 3-0 in pool play and didn’t pick up a loss until the final.

In pool play, Flushing defeated Waterford Kettering 25-11, 25-12, Howell 25-16, 25-13 and St. Johns 25-17, 25-20. The Lady Raiders then defeated Swartz Creek 25-14, 25-11 in the quarterfinals and St. Johns 25-19, 25-15 in the semifinals before losing to Sterling Heights Stevenson in the final, 24-26, 20-25.

Maddie Morrison finished the day with 33 kills, 41 digs and 11 aces. Andrews had 102 assists, 15 aces and 28 digs. Maynor had 59 digs, Sutton Bate recorded 28 kills and Quincy Davis had 20 kills with eight blocks. Taylor Wendling had 15 kills with 11 blocks and House had 16 kills, 28 digs and eight aces.

Last Friday, Flushing finished 2-1 at the Clarkston Quad against some of the state’s best competition. Flushing defeated Oxford 25-17, 25-22 and North Branch 25-12, 25-14, but lost to Clarkston 13-25, 15-25. North Branch was ranked No. 2 in the state in Div. 2 and Clarkston was an Honorable Mention selection in Div. 1 at the time.

Morrison led the team with 21 kills and eight blocks on the day. Wendling had 11 kills and eight blocks, Davis had 11 kills and Andrews had 52 assists with five aces. Maynor had 19 digs, Harper Johnson had 17 and House had six aces.

Last Thursday, Flushing defeated Linden 25-23, 25-9, 25-19.

Morrison had nine kills and 11 digs. Sutton Bate had eight kills, Andrews had 34 assists and Maynor had 15 digs and with two aces apiece were Maysa Davis and Larissa Luff.

Flushing, 14-5-1 and still an Honorable Mention selection in the Div. 1 state rankings, is at the Portage Invite Saturday.
