Evan Pougnet named Metro Coach of Year

“We had an absolutely fantastic season this year,” said Flushing coach Evan Pougnet. “Based on our shaky start the first two matches out of the gate, I could not be more proud of the girls for where they took it with all the hard work they put in. They all bonded together and proved to rise to occasion and really increased their level of play, mental game, and overall drive to win out there.

“We fought for everything and were hungry to improve match after match. I think it became very clear the impression we wanted to leave and goals the girls were focused on achieving. It is also not an easy task to come off of Regionals as close as we were to qualifying for States and still have the motivation to play as hard as we did in the Flint Metro League Tournament. That is the dedication and tone I saw throughout the season once we stepped up though.

“Just like last year, we entered the tournament second in the League to Holly. It is always a fierce rivalry to beat that team and I had six out of eight flights in the finals against them. We dug as deep as we could, but fell short in those matches and ended the year in a strong second.

Pougnet was also named Flint Metro League Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.

“This was extremely humbling,” said Pougnet. “There is no doubt I would have earned that award without the dedication and hard work my girls have put in this year and the respect we have garnered out there, which makes me extremely proud. The last two years coaching could not have been better; we had a blast this season. I am very excited for our program to continue to grow and I expect big things to come from us again next year!”
