Household hazardous waste day this weekend

GENESEE COUNTY — Genesee County’s bi-annual Recycle Day, sponsored by the Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission, announces its Spring cleanup for the year on May 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Residents can get rid of those hard to recycle / throw away items such as aerosols, air conditioners, appliances and tires (Saturday only), automotive fluids, batteries (household/auto), biomedical sharps (in rigid/sealed container), corrosives, electronics (all kinds), fire extinguishers, fluorescent bulbs, and many other forms of Household Hazardous Waste. Not accepted are agricultural waste/tires, ammunition, compressed gas cylinders, construction and commercial waste & tires, explosives household garbage and yard waste or paper for shredding. Additionally, other dates for Tuesday drop-off, are to be held at Mott Community College, Parking Lot S, 156 Albert R. 7th Annual LEGO Competition

FLINT — A Kid-Friendly art exhibition will be hosted by Flint Institute of Arts,1120 E Kearsley Street, May 12 from 1-4 p.m. This is a fun family event that everyone can participate in, observe, and enjoy. The Art School LEGO Competition is a day of events and creative play and activities including guided LEGO building sessions, open LEGO building in the Art School, LEGO-themed glass blowing demonstrations in the Hot Shop, and a screening of The LEGO Batman Movie in the FIA Theater. Mother’s Day Tea

FLINT — The Flint Cultural Center and Sloan Museum will host two times for Mother’s Day Tea on May 12, at Noon and 2 p.m. at Sloan Museum, 1221 E. Kearsley Street. Celebrate Mother’s Day with a three-course tea, including scones, finger sandwiches, and dessert. Weather permitting, this event will be held in Sloan Museum’s Courtyard.
