Cushman was Flushing’s first individual state champion since 2000 and finished the season out at 56-0.

Flushing also returns Braxton Gabold at 145 lbs., who was a state qualifier and tallied over 40 wins last season. Regional qualifier Brennen Herr, along with Matthew Juhl at 130, Carter Johnson at 215, Connor Malancon at 285, Jeremy Parker 171, and Devin Powells at 160 will all be returning this season as well.

According to coach Andy Rishmawi, Flushing drew in “a good host of freshman and newcomers that should do well, including Jarrell Hunter, who is one that has wrestled for a few years now.”

Flushing is also coming off a 5-3 league record last season and a 28-18 overall that graduated only three prominent seniors, which included Jordan Tuttle, 145, Justin Cotton, 125, and Dillon Lavery at 152.

“We are excited about the season getting started, however we know we need to be in condition and ready to wrestle because our league is very tough,” Rishmawi added.
