Flushing City Police Dept. looking to fill part-time crossing guard positions

By Sam Tunningley

FLUSHING - The Flushing Police Department is searching for two new crossing guards to work part-time at the intersections an hour before and after school.

Police Chief Mark Hoornstra said the work is ideal for a side job, and everyone from parents of children attending the district to retirees have filled guard positions in the past. No previous experience is required, but applicants must pass a criminal background check.

“We’ve got S.A.L.T people and former employees of the school,” said Hoornstra. “One lady who works with us is retired and just loves to spend time around kids.”

The street intersections that need workers according to Hoornstra include Coutant and Hazelton, Coutant and McKinley, and Coutant and Deland.

Interested individuals can apply at the Flushing City Police Department directly at 725 E. Main Street. For more information on the available positions, call (810) 659-3119.
