Harvest Fest coming up

By Sam Tunningley

The Flushing Harvest Festival – scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23 – is fast approaching, and there is still time to sign up for all the contests the yearly event has to offer. All applications are available on the Flushing Area Chamber of Commerce website.

Vendors and artisans reserving a 10 x 10 booth with payment other than cash or money order must turn in their applications by Friday, Sept. 15; no refunds will be granted after the deadline date. The space is granted on a “first come, first serve” basis, and vendors are expected to provide their own tent, tables, chairs and other essentials.

Individuals partaking in the scarecrow contest must visit the Chamber’s website to reserve a lamppost. As in the past, the scarecrows are judged prior to the festival on Tuesday, Sept. 19, but the winners will not be announced until the day of. The Chamber invites all local clubs, businesses and organizations to participate.

The beard, pie-baking, chili cook-off and sidewalk chalk contests – three staples of the festival returning in 2017 – require pre-registration, but applicants are able turn in forms the day of the festival. Information regarding start and check-in times is available on each sign-up sheet.

The Flushing Area Chamber of Commerce is located at 105 East Main St.
