‘Scoopathon’ Fundraiser at Cops and Robbers

By Sam Tunningley

Customers can order their favorite flavors of ice cream all of hours of the day and night during the Cops and Robbers’ “Scoopathon,” a fundraiser for the Hunstman Cancer Society, in partnership with Kettering University’s Sigma Chi fraternity. The event begins on Friday at 10 a.m. and ends the same time Saturday.

The idea for the Scoopathon came from a conversation last year during a similar – yet shorter – four-hour benefit for Huntsman Cancer Foundation held at Cops and Robbers.

“One of the employees jokingly said we should make this a 24-hour thing,” said Jennifer McDermott, owner of the ice cream and gift shop. McDermott said the store and fraternity seemed a good match to bring the day together.

Sigma Chi regularly raises money for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation, and participates in Derby Days, a nationwide horse racing fundraiser held every year with their Greek brothers and sisters. This summer will be the third time working with Cops and Robbers.

Cops and Robbers is serving coffee all night and a breakfast for its guests starting at 5 a.m.; members of the Sigma Chi Fraternity will assist staff during the event.

“They support us a lot,” said McDermott of Sigma Chi. “They’re all great customers.”

Cops and Robbers is located at 323 E Main St, Flushing, Michigan 48433.
