Flushing’s Nick Mabry was all smiles after signing his national letter-of-intent to play last Wednesday to play football at Davenport University. FLUSHING – Nick Mabry, a senior football player at Flushing High, had the spotlight all to himself last Wednesday on National Signing Day. Mabry committed to Davenport University to continue his football career.

“Davenport had the most up side to the program,” said Mabry.

Other aspects of the University that Mabry liked include outstanding academic programs, job rates are very high, the campus has beautiful facilities and the coaches are outstanding.

The double major in sports management/ finance also considered Michigan State, Ferris State, Michigan Tech, Northwood, Saginaw Valley State University and Siena Heights.

Mabry doesn’t see anything going forward as a big challenge.

“I don’t view anything as a challenge,” he said. “I just view it as honing my craft. I’m just excited to get to work!”

Mabry isn’t sure where or how he will fit into Davenport’s program.

“Like everything else in life I will have to earn a starting position,” Mabry said.

Mabry wanted to thank a lot of key people for helping him realize his dream of playing college football.

“God. My family, coaches and my City of Flint. Powers Catholic High School, Flushing High School because I split two years each at their respective high school,” Mabry said.

Mabry knows he has what it takes and isn’t afraid of what lies ahead. His resume speaks for itself as he was named Blue-Grey All- American and honorable mention All-Flint Metro League.
