Flushing Twp. receives premium reduction on insurance plan

By Sam Tunningley

FLUSHING - At the upcoming Flushing Township Board of Trustees meeting, Burnham and Flower Insurance Group will present the annual insurance plan, which shows a significant reduction on the premium cost.

Flushing Township had to reduce the fund balance by $20,000 last year to cover the increased cost of the policy premium. The township is still considered high risk due to the volatile nature and past of the board, according to Township Supervisor Fred Thorsby, and will remain so for three years.

Last year’s premium was $129,052 and has been reduced to $96,862 for the 2017-2018 year.

Thorsby said Burnham and Flower has been sitting in on the meetings to assess the new board members, which accounts for the overall decrease.

“They have been monitoring the board meetings,” said Thorsby. “They like the direction it’s going.”

A comprehensive overview of the new insurance contract will be presented by Larry Clever of Burnham and Flowers.
